While many of the fashion set have already made the transatlantic crossing, continuing on to the Milan shows, Los Angeles proved last night that the West Coast also beckons designers this time of year. Fresh from the New York shows was Joseph Altuzarra, guest of honor at a lunch at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills, hosted by Zoe Saldana, who was already wearing the Spring 2016 espadrilles off Altuzarra’s runway, and stylist Petra Flannery. Seated next to the designer at the rooftop affair was January Jones, among those celebrating the exclusive launch of his new, highly anticipated handbag line. Even a seasoned vet like Altuzarra couldn’t have been more earnest when expressing his excitement for his latest creations. “Honestly, I’m really proud,” he said. “It’s like a dream come true.”

Later that evening, Chateau Marmont did double duty as the setting for two parties. First up, in the penthouse, was Dior Homme’s cocktail in honor of the brand’s creative director, Kris Van Assche. Kate Bosworth turned up in a black Dior look, joined at the party by Miles Teller, John Legend, Orlando Bloom, A$AP Rocky, and James Marsden, all wearing Dior Homme. When asked if a Californian aesthetic changes the way one wears his designs, Van Assche said, “Style is such a personal matter. I like the way men can make a wardrobe their own. Still, in California, codes are maybe more easily challenged than anywhere else, since individuality is key to the lifestyle here. I like this freedom since I like to play with codes myself and don’t believe in fashion diktats.”

Downstairs in the garden, Vogue.com’s Kelly Connor, straight off a flight from New York, hosted a dinner with Marisa Tomei to celebrate Los Angeles label Co and the brand’s first foray into denim. Founders and designers Stephanie Danan and Justin Kern teamed up with legendary French designer and denim genius François Girbaud to create unique, wearable pieces that are already being snapped up in stores. Their venture was feted by other fellow L.A. fashion notables, like hatmaker Nick Fouquet and shoe designer George Esquivel, as well as Kathryn Hahn, Lykke Li, and Angela Lindvall, all dressed in Co, naturally, for the occasion.
